About

Sturgeon Public Schools operates two Learning Centres as outreach schools: Morinville Learning Centre in Morinville and Sturgeon Learning Centre in Gibbons. We provide an alternative high school setting that offers an opportunity for students to earn high school credits using a flexible and individualized approach. Our school environment focuses on supportive teacher-learner relationships. We provide students with the opportunity to learn at a pace that is appropriate for them. Our teachers provide feedback and support through learning plans developed for specific student needs.

Looking for Grades 8 & 9 Online Learning?

Mission

We believe all students have the ability to achieve their educational goals and succeed as contributing citizens of today and tomorrow.

Vision

While providing a more flexible approach to instruction, academic success is the primary focus of the Learning Centres. The ultimate goal of the program is for each student to achieve a high school diploma or requisite courses for enrolment in a post- secondary institution. We see our mandate as offering an alternative high school program for students whose skills allow them to succeed within the Learning Centre environment.

The small school nature of the Sturgeon Learning Centre provides for informal, but supportive teacher-learner relationships.

The Learning Centre is for anyone who needs an extra course, needs to repeat a course, wants to upgrade, or needs some flexibility in their timetable, even if you are already registered at another high school within Sturgeon School Division. Students are involved in selecting their programs and determining goals.

Attendance and work completion schedules are flexible and designed to meet the individual needs of students.

Beliefs

  • All students can be successful
  • All students have a right to an education
  • That learning rates, styles and abilities vary from individual to individual
  • That learning takes place in multiple settings
